It's been a while, but we're back and recovered from an eventful and exhilarating holiday weekend in Lake Winnebago, Missouri. You're probably asking yourself a few questions right about now. "Where is Lake Winnebago? Why on earth did you go there?"
Lake Winnebago is about an hour outside of Kansas City (it's really cute when Ivy says "Kansas City!" by the way), near Lee's Summit, which you may remember from the documentary Jesus Camp where the little kids were from before they went off to be brainwashed.
And at Lake Winnebago is where you will find Xanadu. What is Xanadu, you ask? Well, really it's not a place, rather it's a state of mind. Everything about the essence of the experience is defined by Xanadu-worthiness.
Are you confused yet? Because in reality, it's also a place, the house where Mike's cousin lives. The whole family - 22 Silversteins (including Blacks, Dombrowskis, and Pattons) - gathered for a weekend of fun and shenanigans, the details of which are too many to share here (this is a public blog after all), so I'll give you the highlights:
- Ivy playing with her cousins, especially the little ones - though it's up for debate how lasting the impact of the noogy-holder incident with Sami will be...
The Lake Winnebago Water Wizards - they put on a waterskiing show outside the yacht club (not as fancy as it sounds, people) with all kinds of patriotic fan fare. Sure gives Scripps Ranch a run for it's money. We were just bummed that we missed the morning fun run and didn't have any cash on us to buy Water Wizards t-shirts. Ivy represented in her red, white and blue gear.
- Ivy's first boat ride - she didn't puke or freak out, so maybe she's carrying the Silverstein boat gene, and not the Rogoff one.
- Fireworks - Ivy loved them! Too bad it started raining, because I have a feeling they ended early.
Meanwhile, we're loving how Ivy talks about being a big sister. Her friend Abby became a big sister last weekend, so when we showed her the pictures she said "Abby is a big sister just like me!" I get multiple tummy kisses a day, and she loves to try to feel the baby move. And she's totally into babies. Baby Benjamin at day care is her buddy, and she's the only kid there who is interested in helping out with him. She helps get his bottles and pacifier and diapers, and really loves him. Today, in fact, she said the cutest thing: "When the baby comes out it gets born and then it cries and you give it milk and a pacifier!" Done. Simple as that!
And I will leave you with a tummy pic - just please don't ask me about my weight gain this past month. I just make big babies, okay?
